Cherry Ames was and is a very popular nursing series. The early volumes were written during the time of World War II and Cherry Ames was a very patriotic young lady who proudly servered her country. Cherry has a twin brother Charlie who also served in the military. He is only briefly mentioned in most of the books but does have a more active part in Chief Nurse. There were five titles in the series which had to do with the war:

6. Vetern's Nurse (1946)

The Cherry Ames series was written by Helen Wells and Julie Thathum, all of the army related books were authored by Ms. Wells. In the first book (Student Nurse) Cherry is a young lady just entering nursing school.
